Richard Henry, a lifelong Tuscaloosa resident and small business owner, announced Wednesday that he is running for Tuscaloosa City Council District 3.

“Today, I am announcing my candidacy because our community deserves steady, experienced leadership that understands how city decisions affect neighborhoods and families,” Henry said.

Henry is running to fill a vacancy on the City Council following the election of former city councilman Norman Crow to House District 63.

Henry continued, “This special election is an opportunity to keep District 3 well represented and focused on the issues that matter at the local level.”

Henry has spent his career in property management and redevelopment, working hands-on to rehabilitate neglected multi-family housing and redevelop vacant commercial properties. His focus has been on strengthening neighborhoods and revitalizing underused properties in the Tuscaloosa area.

“Local government works best when it stays focused on the basics,” Henry said. “My focus is making sure our neighborhoods are safe and that our part of the city gets its fair share when decisions are made about projects and improvements.”

In addition to his professional experience, Henry said he has remained active in the city’s civic life by regularly attending council and zoning meetings and working with local organizations.

Henry stated that he has been a consistent advocate for responsible growth, public safety and ensuring neighborhoods receive their fair share of city resources and infrastructure investment.

Henry lives in Tuscaloosa with his wife, Jana, and their children, Sally and Thomas. He is a graduate of Tuscaloosa City Schools, and his children currently attend Tuscaloosa City Schools.

The special election for District 3 will be administered by the City of Tuscaloosa. Additional details regarding qualifying and election dates will be announced as they become available.
