Lieutenant Governor Will Ainsworth on Tuesday announced he is joining Alabama’s Freedom First Coalition, a new group of conservative policymakers and pro-business trade associations committed to promoting low taxes, less regulation and fewer government mandates, according to his news release.
“Business works best when government gets out of its way, and low taxes, fewer regulations, and minimal mandates are the ingredients for the recipe of job creation and economic development,” Ainsworth said. “At the same time, the basic principles that the Freedom First Coalition promotes provide the foundation of the commonsense conservatism embraced by President Reagan and President Trump.”
Ainsworth has opposed tax increases during his time in public service and supported cutting Alabama’s state sales tax on groceries in half.
As chairman of the Alabama Small Business Commission, Ainsworth has proposed and supported policies aimed at growing new and existing businesses, from small businesses to large employers. He is also a leading advocate for workforce development, career technical education and job training programs, the release said.
Groups participating in the coalition include the Alabama Policy Institute, the Alabama Farmers Federation, the Alabama Realtors Association, the Alabama Mining Association, the Chamber of Commerce Association of Alabama, the Alabama Retail Association, the Business Council of Alabama, Manufacture Alabama, the Alabama Cattlemen’s Association, Alabama AGC and the Alabama Road Builders Association.
