Alabama Congressional delegation reacts to release of Nunes memo

Alabama’s Congressional delegation reacted mostly positive towards the decision to release a classified memo dealing with the investigation of a former Trump campaign staffer to the public.

Friday, President Donald Trump approved the request of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence to declassify a classified memo provided to the Committee regarding requests by the FBI and the Department of Justice to place surveillance on former members of the Trump presidential campaign. Republicans embraced the conclusions of the Nunes memo; while Democrats denounced it as drawing the wrong conclusions and worried that it jeopardized the sources and methods used by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and never should have been made public.

I always appreciate the opportunity to get out of Washington, D.C. and spend time with the people I represent in Congress. Our most recent District Work Week was unfortunately cut short by the frivolous government shutdown, but thankfully I was still able to get back to Southwest Alabama for a number of town hall meetings and other important events.

It was a real treat to be able to celebrate my 100th in-person town hall meeting by holding a “100th Town Hall Tour” with stops in Chatom, Grove Hill, Jackson, Creola, East Brewton, and Frisco City. These town hall meetings are always a fantastic opportunity to hear directly from the people I represent in Congress.

Sewell grills Comey, Rogers at Intelligence Hearing

Monday, March 20, 2017, the US House Intelligence Committee held hearings into allegations that President Obama ordered a wiretap of, then candidate, Donald J. Trump’s phone, as well as whether or not Russian government operatives may have conspired with the Trump campaign to convince American voters to pick Donald J. Trump (R) over former Secretary of State Hillary R. Clinton (D). FBI Director James Comey testified before the Committee on Monday. US Representative Terri A Sewell (D-Selma) serves on the House Intelligence Committee.
