The Council of State Governments (CSG) has announced the recipients of its 2024 20 Under 40 Leadership Award, celebrating 20 emerging state leaders for their commitment to public service and innovative solutions. This year’s honorees represent 16 states and territories, highlighting a diverse group of officials working to improve their communities. Among them are Alabama Sen. Andrew Jones and Rep. Neil Rafferty.

“These exceptional leaders embody the values of civility, collaboration, and innovation,” said David Adkins, CSG executive director. “Their work inspires confidence in the future of state government.”

Launched in 2020, the award recognizes elected and appointed officials aged 40 or younger who demonstrate excellence in bipartisan leadership, champion meaningful policy changes, and serve as advocates for their constituents. Winners are selected from a competitive pool based on their impact in advancing the common good.

The program was inspired by New Hampshire Sen. Lou D’Allesandro, who, as the 2019 CSG National Chair, sought to spotlight the next generation of public servants. Since its inception, the award has honored 100 leaders, highlighting their contributions to governance and policy.

“The passion and dedication these leaders bring to their roles reflect the spirit of public service that Sen. D’Allesandro has championed throughout his career,” Adkins added.

Honorees will be recognized at the CSG National Conference in New Orleans, scheduled for Dec. 4-7. For more information about the program and future nominations, visit here.
