Governor Kay Ivey welcomes 96 Correctional Officer Trainees to the Governor’s Mansion for a reception ahead of their graduation from the ADOC Academy.

Governor Kay Ivey celebrated a historic milestone Thursday, welcoming 96 Correctional Officer Trainees (COTs) to the Governor’s Mansion. The class, the largest to graduate from the Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) Academy during her tenure, was greeted by the governor on the front steps of the mansion before being invited inside for a special reception.

The reception featured congratulations from Governor Ivey and a chance for the trainees to view the Mansion’s Christmas decorations, adding a festive touch to the momentous occasion.

“I was excited to welcome these 96 Correctional Officer Trainees to the ‘Peoples’ House’ today ahead of their graduation from the Academy. I was doubly proud to celebrate this largest ever class of Correctional Officers since I took office. I congratulate each of these graduates, and I know they will make a difference in keeping our people safe,” said Governor Ivey.

The graduates, who have completed 10 weeks of rigorous training to obtain Alabama Peace Officers’ Standard and Training Commission (APOSTC) certification, expressed gratitude for the governor’s leadership and her unwavering support of law enforcement and corrections personnel.

On Friday, Dec. 6, 2024, the 96 COTs will officially graduate from the Alabama Criminal Justice Training Center during a ceremony to be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Montgomery campus of Church of the Highlands.

This accomplishment highlights the ongoing efforts to address staffing challenges within Alabama’s corrections system and reinforces the state’s commitment to public safety.
