ALGOP opens candidate qualifying for House District 11 special election

House District 11 encompasses parts of Cullman and Blount Counties.

The Alabama Republican Party has officially opened candidate qualifying for the special election in State House District 11. Qualifying commences on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at 8:30 a.m., and will conclude on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at 5 p.m. Prospective candidates can submit their applications online at www.algop.org or in person at the ALGOP Headquarters, located at 3505 Lorna Road, Hoover, AL 35216.

House District 11, encompassing parts of Cullman and Blount Counties, was previously represented by State Representative Randall Shedd. Rep. Shedd resigned from his position in mid-February 2025, to serve as the director of Constituent Affairs for State Senate President Pro Tem Garlan Gudger. Governor Kay Ivey subsequently signed a writ of election on Feb. 24 to initiate the process for filling the vacant seat.

ALGOP Chairman John Wahl expressed appreciation for Rep. Shedd’s service and welcomed his continued leadership in his new role:

“Randall Shedd has been a dedicated public servant, and we are grateful for his years of leadership in the Alabama House of Representatives. His commitment to the people of House District 11 and our state has been unwavering, and we look forward to working with him in his new position. As we move forward in filling this seat, the Alabama Republican Party remains committed to electing strong conservative leaders who will represent our values in Montgomery.”

The special election schedule is as follows:

Special Primary Election: Tuesday, May 13, 2025
Special Primary Runoff (if needed): Tuesday, June 10, 2025
Special General Election: Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2025

As of now, Heath Allbright, a former member of the Cullman County Board of Education, has declared his candidacy for the Republican nomination. The Alabama Democratic Party has not yet announced any candidates for this race.

Independent or third-party candidates interested in running have until May 13, 2025, to submit their qualifying documents.

Voters in House District 11 are encouraged to participate in the upcoming elections to ensure their voices are heard in selecting their new representative.
