Heath Allbright, a businessman, farmer and former two-term member of the Cullman County Board of Education, won Tuesday’s Republican nomination for the House District 11 in the special primary election.

Allbright was endorsed by the Alabama Farmers Federation, Alabama Forestry Association and the Business Council of Alabama.

The seat was previously occupied by Rep. Randall Shedd, who stepped down in February to serve as director of constituent affairs for Senate President Pro Tem Garlan Gudger, R-Cullman.

Voters in Cullman and Blount counties chose Allbright over military veteran Don Fallin. As of Tuesday evening, unofficial election results from the Secretary of State’s office showed Allbright received 1,909 votes, or 54.3 percent, while Fallin scored 1,609 votes, or 45.7 percent.

The vote was close in Cullman County, a difference of only 24 votes. Allbright received 50.4 percent, with Fallin receiving 49.6 percent. Allbright won by taking 71.1 percent of the votes in Blount County, 276 more votes than Fallin.

Allbright campaigned on a platform for reducing taxes, supporting small businesses and protecting rural Alabama’s values.

“I am deeply honored by the trust voters in District 11 have placed in me,” said Allbright. “I’m ready to fight for our families, schools, and businesses, ensuring our community thrives while preserving the values that make Blount and Cullman Counties home.”

Alabama Republican Party Chairman John Wahl and Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth congratulated Allbright on his victory.

“We’re grateful to both candidates for stepping forward to serve, and to the voters who participated in this important election. With so much at stake in our state, it’s critical that we continue to elect leaders who will stand for conservative values and fight for the people of Alabama. I look forward to supporting Heath Allbright as we head toward the general election in August,” said Wahl.

“As a husband, father, and small business owner, Heath understands the challenges Alabamians face, and I am confident he will be a strong, conservative voice in the House,” said Ainsworth.

Allbright will face Democratic candidate Alex Braswell in the special general election on Aug. 26.
