Clay Scofield is out at the Business Council of Alabama and in at the Energy Institute of Alabama.
Scofield, a former Alabama Senate Majority Leader, has served as executive vice president at BCA since 2023, when he resigned from the senate. In that capacity, he has been BCA’s point person for its ProgressPAC political action committee, helping to elect pro-business candidates to the state’s Legislature.
According to a release from EIA, Scofield will now join that organization as CEO and president. In that role, Scofield will remain in the realm of governmental relations, working alongside Blake Hardwich, EIA’s governmental relations advisor, on behalf of Alabama’s energy sector.
“We have worked closely with Clay for years and he is the absolute perfect leader to take on this new role running the Energy Institute of Alabama,” EIA chairman Taylor Williams said. “We appreciate Blake’s tireless service since the inception of the institute, and we are excited to benefit from her continued leadership and work for this organization. Our state can’t succeed economically without a strong, dynamic and resilient energy sector. Our energy policies must be forward-thinking and innovative, and we’re confident that Clay will bring the leadership that allows that to happen.”
For his part, Scofield said he was honored to take on the new role, particularly at such an important time for the state and for the energy industry.
“Alabama has the resources, innovation, and leadership needed to ensure that we remain at the forefront of energy independence, economic growth, and national security,” Scofield said in a statement. “I look forward to working with our policymakers, industry leaders, and research partners to strengthen our energy infrastructure and position Alabama as a true leader in America’s energy renaissance.”
