Secretary of State Wes Allen releases tutorial to help Alabama small business owners

The “Business Basics” tutorial video simplifies business filings and highlights efforts to reduce regulations statewide.

Secretary of State Wes Allen

Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen has released a new tutorial video aimed at helping small business owners navigate the state’s business filing system and better understand Alabama’s laws on business practices.

The video, titled “Business Basics: Structures and Business Filings,” walks viewers through how to efficiently use the Business Services section of the Secretary of State’s website and explains the different types of business entities and filing requirements.

“I would encourage all Alabama small business owners or those with an interest in starting a business in Alabama to access this video,” said Allen. “It is always the goal of myself and my Office to ensure that Alabamians have the resources and guidance they need to be successful in their business endeavors.”

Allen has boasted a broader effort to support Alabama’s business community through simplified processes and reduced costs.

Since taking office, Allen has advocated for measures that cut red tape and reduce some spending measures, including eliminating filing requirements and streamlining business services.

Earlier this year, Allen’s office backed legislation, HB230, introduced by Rep. Margie Wilcox, R-Mobile, that removed the costly and redundant filing requirement.

This measure is estimated to have saved Alabama businesses around $690,000 over three years. The Secretary of State’s Office also announced last year the elimination of more than $2 million in wasteful spending, part of an ongoing effort to make state operations more efficient.

Allen has also  pressed the federal government to scale back some reporting rules, arguing that small businesses are disproportionately affected by overlapping state and federal regulations.

“My track record is very clear – I will always support Alabama’s hardworking men and women as they pursue the American dream,” said Allen. “I have publicly called for the repeal of unnecessary and burdensome filings in federal law.”
