U.S. Senator Katie Britt, R-Alabama, has joined a bipartisan coalition of Senate colleagues in launching the new Senate Stewardship Caucus. The caucus, co-chaired by Senators Tim Sheehy, R-Montana, and Martin Heinrich, D-New Mexico, will look to expand and protect access to public lands, “promote commonsense land management policies,” and “support economic growth in rural communities.”
“I’m grateful to be part of founding the bipartisan Nature Caucus and represent Alabama the Beautiful,” Britt said in an official statement Wednesday. “Our great state is not only a destination for countless sportsmen, hunters, anglers, and nature-goers, but also the proud home to hardworking famers and foresters who work diligently to feed and clothe our state, nation, and world. It’s our job as legislators to work toward responsible conservation solutions, and I’m looking forward to continuing that work as a part of this caucus to do just that.”
“Public lands are a purely American institution, and all Americans can find common ground in working together to better manage, conserve, and steward these treasured landscapes while driving economic growth and supporting our resource and agricultural economies,” Sheehy said. “I’m proud to launch the Senate Stewardship Caucus with Senator Heinrich to safeguard the rights of Americans to hunt, fish, and recreate on our public lands and ensure we protect them for generations to come.”
Britt has previous experience in conservation work, having served on the Alabama Wildlife Foundation’s board of directors. In 2024, Britt also cosponsored the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act, a proposed bipartisan bill to increase funds for state conservation efforts.
The new caucus also comes after former Secretary of the Interior and U.S. Representative Ryan Zinke, R-Montana, launched a similar Public Lands Caucus in the House earlier this year.
