The Alabama Resisters chapter of Indivisible is hosting a free showing of the documentary, The Alabama Solution, at the Capri Theatre in Montgomery on November 22. This award-winning film was created from cell-phone footage taken by inmates and from interviews with prisoners and their families.
“Montgomery needs to see this film,” says Rachel T. of the Alabama Resisters. “The Alabama Solution shines light on the state’s despicable treatment of inmates—and nothing about it is just or even moral. The facts here are clear: In a system meant to respond to criminality, the Alabama Department of Corrections is the villain. People need to know what’s happening in the dark.”
The film will be preceded by a Resource Fair where attendees can learn about groups for the incarcerated and the formerly incarcerated and will be followed by a panel discussion focused on “Where Do We Go From Here?”
Resource Fair: 10 a.m. – 11 a.m.
Film: 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Panel Discussion: 1 p.m. – 2 p.m.
The Resource Fair will have representatives from the Alabama League Of Women Voters of Greater Montgomery, Aid to Inmate Mothers, Alabama Post-Conviction Relief Project and a petition table.
Panelists are:
- Andrew Menfee, legal representative to two men in the film
- Carla Crowder, executive director of Alabama Appleseed
- Kacey L. Keeton, senior litigator and a member of Alabama Post-Conviction Relief Project
The film is rated R and is for adults 18 and up. The official trailer can be seen here. To register, visit https://www.mobilize.us/alabamaresisters/event/866523/.
