John Knight, David Burkette in runoff for State Senate seat

State Rep. John Knight, D-Montgomery, and Montgomery City Councilman David Burkette received the most votes in the special Democratic Primary in Montgomery County’s state Senate District 26 special election.

The two will face off in a runoff to fill the District 26 seat vacated by Quinton Ross after he became the president of Alabama State University.

“Words cannot express how thankful I am. I appreciate all of your support. This journey is not over yet. I led the primary and with your help I will be elected your next Alabama Senator District 26!” Knight on social media.

Bring photo ID to the polls today; House District 4, Senate District 26 also have elections

Today is the day that Alabama selects its new U.S. senator to replace Jeff Sessions.  Sessions vacated the seat months ago to be President Donald J. Trump’s Attorney General.  In addition to the Senate race between Doug Jones and Roy Moore, there will also be major party primary elections in State House District 4 and state Senate District 26.

The hypermedia attention and the vitriol on social media is possibly drawing many voters to the polls that normally only vote in Presidential elections, if then.  In order to be sure that your vote is counted you need to remember to bring your photo ID with you when you go to the polls. The State of Alabama has a law that requires that you show a valid photo ID in order to get to participate in the election process.

ADC endorses attorney Fred Bell in Senate District 26 race

The Alabama Democratic Conference convened a screening committee in Montgomery and voted to endorse Attorney Fred Bell in the Democratic primary special election for Senate District 26 on Tuesday.

Bell is a Montgomery city councilman representing Council District 6 in southeast Montgomery.

Chairman of the ADC, Joe Reed, said that Bell has been an Alabama Education Association attorney and has an exemplary record as a public servant.

Major Party qualifying has closed in House District 4 and Senate District 26

The Alabama Republican Party announced that it has closed candidate qualifying for both Alabama House of Representatives District 4 and Senate District 26 on Tuesday, October 10 at 5:00 p.m. Senate District 26 represents Montgomery County and House District 4 represents Limestone and Morgan counties.

The following individuals qualified to run in the special Republican Primary for the House District 4 seat: Tom Fredricks; Parker Duncan Moore; and Tom Willis
