Madison County GOP Chairman Sam Givhan qualifies for State Senate race

Thursday, Madison County GOP Chairman Sam Givhan has formally qualified with the Republican Party to run for the Alabama State Senate representing District 7 in Madison County.

“I am excited to hit the campaign trail and talk to the voters about the issues they care about most, things like the economy, education, and infrastructure,” Givhan said. “We’ve got great some great momentum happening in the district and around the state, and I know we can take this progress to the next level.”

State unemployment down to 3.8 percent

Friday, October 20, 2017 Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey (R) announced that Alabama’s preliminary, seasonally-adjusted September unemployment rate is down to 3.8 percent, a big drop from August’s rate of 4.2 percent and well below the September 2016 rate of 6.0 percent. The last time Alabama’s unemployment rate was this low was in April 2007, when it also measured 3.8 percent; this is the lowest rate in recorded history.

Rex Reynolds running in House District 21

Former Police Chief Rex Reynolds announced that he is a candidate for the Alabama House of Representative District 21 seat in the Special Election as a Republican.

“Our District is unique, covering farms and neighborhoods to the north, though a thriving downtown district, and in to Southeast Huntsville”, Reynolds said.  “I feel I have the unique skill set to serve all of District 21, given my childhood home place, my schools, my service to the city, running a small business, and farming.”

Gov. Ivey announces Special Election dates for House District 21

Monday, Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey signed a proclamation to set the Special Election dates for Alabama House District 21.

Gov. Ivey set the major party primaries for Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018.

If a major party runoff is necessary, it will be on Tuesday, March 27, 2018. The Special General Election would then be on Tuesday, June 12, 2018. If there is only one major candidate for each major party and no need for a primary, the general election will be held Tuesday, March 27, 2018. If there is a primary but no runoff is needed, the General Election will be Tuesday, March 27, 2018.

Roy Moore to headline Madison County Republican Party Freedom Gala

The Madison County Republican Executive Committee will present the 2nd biennial Freedom Gala: A Celebration of Freedom on Thursday, Oct. 12, at the Jackson Center in Research Park in Huntsville. Republican U.S. Senate candidate Roy Moore will be the Keynote Speaker.

Moore is a life-long Alabamian and outspoken constitutional conservative that has stood up for liberty and religious freedom his entire career. He is an alumnus of Etowah High School in Attalla, Alabama, and an alumnus of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Arts and Engineering. Moore also has a 1977 law degree from the University of Alabama.

Arrangements for Rep. Jim Patterson

The final arrangements for state Rep. Jim Patterson, R-Meridianville, were announced on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017.

Visitation will be on Thursday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Meridianville First Baptist Church in Meridianville, Alabama.

A Celebration of Life will follow on Friday at 2 p.m. at Hazel Green High School Gymnasium in Hazel Green, Alabama.

“The Alabama Republican Party is deeply saddened to hear of Representative Jim Patterson’s sudden passing,”  Alabama Republican Party Chairman Terry Lathan remembered Alabama GOP House member Jim Patterson in a statement. “A public servant, father, husband, colleague and friend, Representative Patterson was dearly loved. His presence will be sorely missed throughout our state and in the halls of the state house.”

Monday, Huntsville businessman and veteran, Jonathan Hard, announced his candidacy for state Senate District 7 as a Democrat.

Hard said in a statement, “People are tired of the ‘politics as usual’ crowd and want someone who will represent them. Givhan running for State Senate in District 7

Tuesday, June 20, 2017, Alabama Republican Party Senior Vice Chairman Sam Givhan announced that he is running for Alabama State Senate, District 7.  Givhan made the decision after incumbent Senator Paul Sanford (R-Huntsville) announced that he would not seek re-election.

Givhan said, “I have been living, working and active in the Madison County Community for more than two decades.  I know the issues that matter most to the families, businesses and residents of the greater Huntsville area and believe I have the leadership it takes to represent Madison County in the State Senate.”

ALGOP Summer Meeting and Convention Gala to Be Held in Huntsville

Tuesday, August 16, 2016, the Alabama Republican Party announced that Friday, August the 19th is the last day to buy tickets to its summer gala and convention in Huntsville on Saturday, August 27.

The State Republican Executive Committee will gather for their biannual meeting in Huntsville, Alabama on Saturday, August 27, 2016. The meeting, which is open to the public, will be held at the Von Braun Convention Center. The ALGOP has one of the largest state parties in the nation with over 440 members.
