Opinion | Trump has failed to deliver on every promise. So why are you still loyal?

Trump has failed to deliver on every promise and sold out his base in every way imaginable. Yet, the loyalty for some doesn’t fade.

The ads are basically the same, and they are never ending.

There’s an Alabama politician either with Donald Trump or with an image of Donald Trump. There is writing somewhere on the screen touting the Alabama politician as either “endorsed by” Donald Trump or proclaiming that individual to be a “Trump Republican.”

It is impossible to sit through a sporting event without seeing these roughly 50 gajillion times. Which is a figure that I’d use to describe just how confused I am by these ads.

Obviously, the campaigns of these politicians believe these ads to be effective tools. Obviously, the politicians believe that they are winning the votes of the people by touting themselves as devotees of Donald Trump. Surely, some research has gone into these claims, given the astronomical amounts of money that they will cost. Which would lead one to believe that there are still a high number of Alabama voters out there who are firmly devoted to Donald John Trump.

So, if that is indeed the case, I have but one question: Why?

At this point, what in the ever-lovin’ world could drive any thinking person to remain devoted to Trump? What is it about the first year of Trump II that has left anyone with even the slightest belief that the country is doing well, could do well under his leadership or is even maintaining the gains made by former President Joe Biden?

Seriously. Why?

To paraphrase Clark W. Griswold, look around you, we’ve entered the threshold to hell.

As best I can tell, not a single thing that Trump promised any of us prior to the election in Nov. 2024, has been delivered. He’s failed at literally everything.

This man told y’all that he was going to do several things on “day one.” Now, anyone with a working brain knew that was nonsense, because we all knew he was going to watch TV, maybe golf and nap most of day one, just like all of the other days. The two most often cited things that Trump said he would accomplish on day one was lowering grocery prices (as soon as he figured out what groceries are) and ending the war in Ukraine.

Fail and fail.

Prices are not only not lowered more than a year after the 34-time felon took office, they are actually a bit higher.

The war in Ukraine rages on, despite the Trump administration’s attempts to strong arm the Ukrainian president into capitulating to Russian demands.

Another big campaign promise was releasing the Epstein files. The “full, unredacted” copies would be released, we were told repeatedly. They were going to expose the Democrats and Hollywood elites and mega-donors, wipe out the child molesting swamp that controls D.C. and the liberal media.

More than a year later, Trump’s unfocused FBI director tried to tell us that there was no evidence that Epstein trafficked girls and his bumbling AG, when pressed for answers on why certain redactions were made and documents kept disappearing from the small percentage of documents they have released, started screaming about the DOW being “more than fifty thousand!”

Another big campaign promise: No new wars.

How’s that going?

Not only have we bombed multiple countries, we’ve basically entered yet another Middle Eastern quagmire in Iran. Trump and his minions promised repeatedly that such Middle Eastern warfare was particularly never going to happen under his watch, and his campaign often threatened that a vote for Kamala Harris was a “vote for war with Iran.”

Yet, here we are in week three of the war that was “won” on the first day, according to Trump. A war that isn’t a war, but one that we’re considering sending ground troops into, and one that could now take more than six months. Which we all know actually means the rest of our lives.

There is also the war on immigration. That, too, has been a lie. Which you probably should have expected from a guy who tried to convince you that immigrants were eating pets.

While there has certainly been an immigration crackdown, what there hasn’t been is the controlled, measured crackdown on “criminals” that Trump promised so many people. Instead, he’s got y’all defending the terrorizing of small children and day laborers, as his gang of thugs roam America demanding papers from anyone with an accent.

Don’t forget the tariffs, either. Remember how they were going to save the economy and return manufacturing to America? Instead, they’ve sent thousands of farmers into bankruptcy and raised the prices on imports.

Oh, and don’t forget “America first,” either. Especially as we bail out Argentinian farmers, bomb Iran to help Israel and buy up that sweet Russian oil.

The guy has booted millions of people off of food stamps and tens of millions off of their health insurance plans. He’s jacked up the cost of everything, and especially health insurance. He cut the taxes of the wealthy at the expense of the middle class.

He has employed a steady stream of losers, morons and crooks. He has enriched himself at your expense. And he and his administration have routinely ignored court orders and the Constitution. And boasted about doing all of it.

So, let’s recap.

He said they would crack down on corruption. There’s more corruption than ever.

He said there would be no wars. We’re bombing someone new every other week.

He said the prices would drop on day one. The prices are up.

He said the Epstein files would be released completely and unredacted. Pfft. Not even close.

He said the tariffs would lower prices. They raised them.

He said he would put America first. He has put himself and his friends and his favored foreign nations and his corporate donors and his business partners ahead of everyone else.

So, again, I ask you—what the hell are you still holding onto?
