Judge appointed to federal court among those who have yet to rule on Hubbard’s appeal

Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals Associate Judge Liles C. Burke is one of four members on the court who has not ruled on former Speaker of the House Mike Hubbard’s appeal on 12 counts of felony public corruption. The court has been in procession of the final appeals arguments for some seven months — much longer than an average case, even capital murder.

Alabama’s leaders respond to New York City terror attack

Tuesday, an immigrant from Uzbekistan, who had sworn loyalty to ISIS, rented a truck from Home Depot and used it to run over pedestrians in a park in New York City’s lower Manhattan.

Eight people are dead, including several Argentinians, and another eleven have serious injuries. The terrorist, Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov, was shot twice and apprehended by New York City Police Officer Ryan Nash and is now in the hospital recovering from gunshot wounds. Americans across the country reacted to the latest terror attack with shock and sorrow.

Trump administration cutting regulation while State lawmakers do the opposite

As the administration of President Donald J. Trump moves to dismantle Obama-era regulations on lending, the opposite is true here in Alabama, where some legislators are pushing for more rules, not less.

Earlier this month, the Trump administration signaled its intentions to roll back and limit the powers of the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau (CFPB), as part of the Republican effort to end the Dodd-Frank Act.

Trump’s speech: Much ado about very little

President Donald J. Trump’s address to a joint session of Congress Tuesday night was refreshing.

No, really. The speech was reasonable, calm, displaying a temperament we don’t often see from Trump. Yes, really.

Really, really.

And it was a big hit with Alabama’s GOP congressional delegation, too.

“(Trump’s) remarks were a refreshing change from the last eight years, and I look forward to working with him on the many priorities discussed,” said US Sen.-For-Life Richard Shelby.
