The Supreme Court is not sacred

Lifetime power requires scrutiny because even the highest court can protect liberty, distort liberty and still answer to the Constitution.

The Supreme Court deserves respect, but it should never be worshiped.

In a republic, no institution should sit above scrutiny, especially one whose members hold power for life.

In this week’s “This Matters,” Bill Britt examines the Supreme Court, lifetime appointments and the danger of treating any human institution as sacred simply because it wears robes and speaks in constitutional language.

Because history teaches us that courts can defend liberty, but they can also betray it.
