State Rep. Danny Garrett will seek re-election

State Rep. Danny Garrett, R-Tussville, will seek re-election this year.

Garrett filed qualifying papers this week with the Alabama Republican Party to run for another term representing House District 44. Garrett, who was first elected in 2014, currently represents part of Jefferson County including Trussville, Clay and parts of Pinson.

Garrett has served as a member of the influential House Ways and Means education budget committee, which oversees drafting of the Education Trust Fund budget; the Education Policy Committee; the Small Business and Commerce Committee; and the newly created Fiscal Responsibility Committee.

Rumor about Justice Glenn Murdock has hint of truth

Rumors are part of the stock-in-trade of Montgomery politicos, and this past Friday it churned out buzz that Supreme Court Associate Justice Glenn Murdock was going to make a big announcement by day’s end.

In an attempt to run the gossip to ground, The Alabama Political Reporter called Murdock in the early afternoon. After leaving a voicemail, the clock ran out at 5 p.m. with no announcement – after 5 p.m. on a Friday, the only news from the political world are stories they want people to ignore.

Democratic candidate for Governor Walt Maddox hopeful Democrats can win

Off the heels of his gubernatorial announcement, Tuscaloosa mayor and Democratic candidate for governor, Walt Maddox, said he is hopeful a Democrat like himself can be successful in the gubernatorial race.

“I absolutely believe there is a pathway to victory,” said Maddox, who announced Thursday morning he would officially be running for governor, in an interview with The Alabama Political Reporter. “In large part, it’s because we’re turning a page in Alabama’s history where we’re no longer going to allow the politics of fear to drive the decisions at the ballot.”
