McLure withdraws from race for Attorney General

Wednesday, Alabama Attorney General candidate, Sam McLure, announced that he his withdrawing from the Alabama attorney general’s race.

“We entered this race in July, invigorated with a vision to see the people of Alabama take back our government … take it back from being used as a tool to enrich the elite … take back our Government to be used as a platform to speak for the weak,” McLure stated. “It has filled me with tremendous joy and hope to see the soul of our great State rise up to do just that.”

Martin says if elected as Attorney General, AG will stand for “Alabama Guardian”

Wednesday, former U.S. Attorney Alice Martin (R) sent out an email announcing her plans if elected as attorney general.

“I have been traveling around the state meeting and talking with many Alabamians who are resonating with my message about why I am running as Attorney General. The AG quite simply ‘guards’ the rule of law and your safety,” Martin said.

Martin said that she would guard, “Your constitutional freedoms from assault by the left liberals or guarding against federal overreach, the prison doors and ensuring local convictions obtained by your DA are upheld on appeals & criminals serve their time, your tax dollars from wasteful spending and corrupt officials, your personal identity from computer hacks and the sanctuary of your home against domestic violence.”

Chess Bedsole top fundraiser in Attorney General’s race

Wednesday, Chess Bedsole’s campaign for attorney general led September finance disclosures in both funds raised and cash on hand. Bedsole raised a total of $121,750 in contributions for the month, more than any of the other four candidates in the race for Alabama attorney general combined.

Bedsole’s strong September showing allowed him to enter this month with more than $400,000 in cash on hand.

Marshall topped short list to replace Hubbard prosecutor

A recently discovered “short list” of potential special prosecutors is shedding light on why former Gov. Robert Bentley may have appointed Steve Marshall as the state’s attorney general.

During Speaker of the House Mike Hubbard’s criminal investigation, his lawyers, political allies and donors repeatedly called for Bentley to replace Chief Prosecutor Matt Hart. Until recently, it was not publicly known that Bentley had considered removing Hart and even compiled a roll of potential replacements with Marshall topping the list.

Attorney General candidate Alice Martin talks new revenge porn laws

Republican attorney general candidate Alice Martin appeared on a north Alabama radio show Tuesday to discuss the new sex crime laws signed into law earlier this year that strengthen and clarify reporting requirements for sex offenders and create new laws prohibited revenge porn and “sextortion.”

Martin spoke with WEKI 94.7’s the Rachel Hammer Show about the new laws and the need to continue strengthening Alabama’s sex crime statutes.

Martin v. Marshall: AG race off to contentious start

During his introductory press conference in early February, Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall was immediately met with questions about a long-rumored investigation into then-Gov. Robert Bentley.

Marshall said at the time that he didn’t know about the investigation, hadn’t been briefed yet, but planned to speak to his new team and then make a public announcement. Two days later, he acknowledged the investigation and recused himself.

Monday, July 17, 2017, Sam McLure announced that will formally announce his candidacy for Alabama Attorney General at a press conference on July 20, 2017, on the steps of the Attorney General building, facing the Capitol.

McLure said, “Oddly enough, I decided to get into the legal field because I wanted to be a missionary.  My wife and I felt called to be salt and light in a part of the world where the resources of the Church are less prominent,” McLure explained.  “So we thought having a law degree would be good avenue for tent-making.”

Marshall says that Alabama will not be a Sanctuary State on his watch

Friday, June 30, Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall (R) said in a letter to Alabama Republicans that, “For as long as I‘m Attorney General Alabama will not be a Sanctuary State for illegal immigrants.”

AG Marshall promises voters that, “We will crack down on illegal immigrants. I will work with Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Federal Law Enforcement officials as they revive the enforcement of immigration laws across the country, including in Alabama.”

Chess Bedsole is running for attorney general

Thursday, July 6, 2017, Trump’s Alabama campaign Chairman Attorney and Criminal Court Judge Chess Bedsole announced that he was launching a campaign to receive the Republican nomination for Alabama Attorney General.
Bedsole has spent the last two years working with President Donald Trump’s campaign and then working for US Attorney General Jeff Sessions as Senior Counsel to the incoming Department of Justice.

During his time with the Sessions’ transition team, Bedsole worked to rewrite Obama executive orders and implement the policies of Trump and Sessions.
