BOCAR Group breaks ground on new plant in Huntsville

BOCAR, a Tier 1 automotive supplier, broke ground on a $115 million new plant in Huntsville, creating more than 300 jobs in a project that adds to the state’s booming automotive manufacturing sector.

Gov. Kay Ivey attended the groundbreaking.

“Delighted to join BOCAR in the groundbreaking to celebrate their $115 million investment in Limestone County,” Ivey said. “This Tier 1 auto parts supplier will continue to show the strength of Alabama’s auto industry.”

Stacy George drops out of Governor’s race, endorses Kay Ivey

Monday, former Morgan County Commissioner Stacy George (R) announced that he was dropping out of the Alabama governor’s race and was endorsing Gov. Kay Ivey. George says that he is dropping out of public life. He will complete his book.

“I, Stacy Lee George am leaving the 2018 Governor’s race. I am endorsing Kay Ivey for Governor. Over the last couple of months while finishing my book I have realized that Governor Ivey has been able to steady the ship in Alabama,” George said in a statement.

Kay Ivey continues to lead in fundraising battle

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey (R) continues to lead the field in campaign fundraising ahead of the 2018 primary.  The Governor closed October with a reported ending balance of $1,616,029.87 in her campaign account, more than any of her competitors, from either major party, for the state’s highest office.

Gov. Ivey reported raising cash contributions in October of $391,146.24.  Her campaign spent just $62,985.64 in October.

Gov. Kay Ivey and Tommy Battle top $1 million in fundraising

Gov. Kay Ivey and Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle have now both topped $1 million in fundraising totals, according to the most recent campaign finance reports.

Battle has raised $1,105,351 since fundraising began in the early summer. Ivey, who decided in September to officially run for a full term, has raised over $1.2 million. She hit the $1 million mark last month, just a few weeks after her announcement.

Walt Maddox announces run for Governor

Thursday, Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox announced that he was running for Governor of Alabama as a Democrat.

Maddox released a video pledging to end Alabama’s crisis in leadership.

“I believe in Alabama and I believe in our potential which is why I believe that we must solve the crisis of leadership.  In the past 18 months, the Governor, the Speaker, the Chief Justice, and the Majority Leader have left office in shame. And, when courage was required, silence was the only response from Montgomery’s leaders,” Maddox said in a statement.

Mike Huckabee endorses Scott Dawson for Governor

Thursday, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee  endorsed Scott Dawson for Governor of Alabama.

Huckabee is an author, a former Fox News TV show host, a former pastor and twice a Republican candidate for president of the United States.

Huckabee made the endorsement of Dawson while on the popular “Rick and Bubba” radio show.

“Scott Dawson brings the right heart to the job, and I am thrilled to be with him,” the former governor said.

David Carrington drops out of Governor’s race

Wednesday, Jefferson County Commissioner David Carrington announced that he was ending his campaign for Governor of Alabama.

Carrington said in a statement to supporters, “After prayerful consideration, I’ve decided it’s time for me to end my campaign for Governor.”

Carrington said, “My six-month journey has been fascinating – one I will never forget or regret. I’ve learned so much about our state, its politics, its citizens and myself. My decision has nothing to do with health or relationship issues. It just wasn’t meant to be.”

Stacy George announces book release

Sunday, Republican gubernatorial candidate Stacy George announced that his book, “Corruption in the Heart of Dixie,” should come out in November.

Commissioner George said in a statement, “Our goal is to complete my book by November of 2017 and do book signings through the remainder of the year.”

George said, “I have been completing my book with the help of Charles Woodall and Karen Brewster George. We are expanding the introduction and we are going to make people think about politics from a local level to a statewide level. The book will challenge you to compare all other candidates in the race on what they have done.”

Gov. Ivey now tops pack in fundraising despite having yet to announce her campaign

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey has accepted more than $1 million in donations and major contributions to her gubernatorial campaign committee, leading the pack of announced candidates despite having not yet officially announced her campaign.

Ivey has only been fundraising since Aug. 25 when she filed paperwork organizing her campaign committee. But in the near-two weeks that she has been fundraising, she has already brought in $1,000,200 — thanks in large part to major individual contributions.

Battle raises over $200,000 in July

Huntsville Mayor and 2018 Republican Gubernatorial candidate Tommy Battle reported another strong month of campaign fundraising.

Mayor Battle is reporting raising over $303,968.21 in July.  Battle reported expenditures of $10,906.32.  Battle began July with $356,133.83 in cash in his account and ended the month with $648,398.82 in his account.

The biggest contribution was actually an $85,000 transfer from the Battle Campaign.  The largest actual contributors were: W.S. Propst $50,000, Francisco J. Collazo $25,000, Harold R. Brewer $10,000, Angel R. Almodovar $10,000, Wayne McMahan LLC $10,000, Samples Commercial Real Estate $10,000, and Joseph A. Hollingsworth $10,000.
