Wednesday, a bill requiring the State Purchasing Division of the Department of Finance to maintain an online statewide database of each request for a bid or proposal for a public contract by the State of Alabama passed in out of the Public Hearing and Vote with a vote of 8 to 0.

The bill, SB30, was sponsored by Senator Arthur Orr (R-Decatur) and was supported by Contract Review Chairman Senator Bill Holtzclaw (R-Madison).

The bill would also include political subdivisions, agencies, boards, commissions, or departments of the state, the State Board of Education, all public college or trade school, or a public university.

According to Orr posting these requests for bid on an online database will open up the bidding process to more vendors possibly saving money for the taxpayers in the state of Alabama.
