Gov. Ivey releases Memorial Day message honoring America’s fallen service members

The governor urged Alabamians to reflect on the holiday’s meaning and carry forward the values fallen service members defended.

Governor Kay Ivey on Friday released a video message for Memorial Day ahead of the holiday weekend, honoring America’s fallen service members and calling on Alabamians to “live worthy” of their sacrifice.

In her message, the governor reflected on the courage of those who gave their lives defending the nation and encouraged Alabamians to remember the meaning of Memorial Day as families gather across the state. She also urged Alabamians to “carry forward the values for which America’s servicemen and women gave their lives,” Ivey’s press release stated.

The governor’s Memorial Day message can be read below.

“Memorial Day is sacred ground.

“Across Alabama, American flags wave because brave men and women once stood in harm’s way for every freedom we hold dear.

“Our fallen heroes left behind families, futures and unfinished stories…all so the rest of us could live free and proudly call ourselves Americans.

“As we gather this Memorial Day, let us do more than remember their sacrifice.

“Let us live worthy of it.

“May we love this country boldly, defend freedom fiercely and never forget the price paid for the red, white and blue.

“God bless our fallen heroes, their families, the great state of Alabama and these United States of America.”
