Online job ads in August up 34.6 percent from last year

Twenty-five percent of job ads have salaries of $75,000 and above.

Data collected and analyzed by the Alabama Department of Labor’s Labor Market Information Division shows that as of August 2022, the yearly comparison of online job ads is 117,221, up 34.6 percent from August 2021. The monthly total of online job ads for August 2022 is up 20.8 percent versus the previous month with 20,184 new online ads.

The five occupations with the most online job ads are for Registered Nurses, Retail Salespersons, Supervisors of Retail Sales Workers, Sales Reps, Wholesale and Manufacturing, and Customer Service Products, with 22,147 ads placed for those occupations in August.

The HWOL data is compiled from all online job postings in the state, including those posted on the state’s free online jobs database, AlabamaWorks.alabama.gov, and other sources, such as traditional job boards, corporate boards, and social media sites.

Twenty-five percent of job ads have salaries of $75,000 and above; 22 percent have salaries in the $50-75,000 range; 19 percent have salaries in the $35-49,000 range; and 34 percent have salaries of $35,000 or under.

The top two employers posting the most online ads in August were Huntsville Hospital with 1,506 and UAB Health System with 1,446. The rest of the top 10 were: Walmart/Sam’s (1,386), Encompass Health (1,180), Regions (882), University of Alabama at Birmingham (854), Lowes (733), Auburn University (684), Baptist Health (649), and University of Alabama (632).

Typically, this occupation requires a master’s degree as well as on-the-job training and a formal license obtained through the Alabama Board of Nursing to gain employment. The advertised median salary for Nurse Practitioners is $97,633.
