Sen. Britt directly secures $2.2M for Samson

The money targets lead line removal, drainage fixes and sewer upgrades as Samson works to meet state environmental standards.

Sen. Katie Britt

U.S. Senator Katie Britt, R-Alabama, through her role on the Senate Appropriations Committee, directly secured $2.2 million for the city of Samson to replace and update critical sewer and water infrastructure. Britt secured more than $6.2 million for Alabama in the fiscal year 2026 Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act.

“I’m proud to secure $2.2 million in funding for the City of Samson to improve its access to clean drinking water,” Britt said. “This funding will remove lead service lines throughout the city to help ensure access to high-quality water, improve drainage systems, and update city infrastructure. It’s important to me that taxpayer dollars are returned to the people of Alabama and our communities, and I’m grateful that my position on the Appropriations Committee allows me to do so.”

Lead service lines can contribute to unsafe drinking water and cause severe health risks. The $2.2 million will fund the removal of lead pipelines in Samson and repairs to infiltration and inflow problems. The funding will also go toward upgrades to water and sewer infrastructure.

“On behalf of the City of Samson, I want to thank Senator Britt for securing $2.2 million to upgrade our sewer and water infrastructure. This funding comes at a critical time, as Samson works to bring our sewage lagoon into full compliance with state environmental standards. Reliable water and sewer service is the foundation of a healthy community, and this investment will protect public health and the environment, reduce costly breakdowns, and help us keep rates affordable for our families. It also strengthens Samson’s ability to attract new growth for years to come. We are deeply grateful to Senator Britt for standing up for small towns like ours,” Samson Mayor Chuck McKnight said.
