Voters in parts of Cullman County went to the polls Tuesday for the special general election in Alabama House District 12, where Republican Cindy Myrex secured a decisive victory—continuing the GOP’s strong hold on the seat.

With all precincts reporting, unofficial results show Myrex captured 1,944 votes (87.06 percent), while Democrat Matt Glover received 287 votes (12.85 percent). Two write-in votes were also recorded.

A lifelong Cullman County resident and businesswoman, Myrex campaigned on a promise to bring “a strong, local voice” to Montgomery.

The election was held to fill the vacancy left by former Representative Corey Harbison, who resigned in early 2025.

Following the results, the Alabama Republican Party issued a statement congratulating Myrex on her win.

“On behalf of the Alabama Republican Party, I want to extend our congratulations to Representative-elect Cindy Myrex on a well-run race,” said Jeannie Burniston, the ALGOP’s director of legislative affairs and communications. “Cindy’s commitment to her community and conservative values will serve the people of House District 12 well.”

Myrex will be sworn in ahead of the 2026 Legislative Session, joining the Republican supermajority in the Alabama House of Representatives.
