Free healthcare clinic served more than 465 patients in Montgomery

Volunteers delivered more than $280,000 in medical, dental and vision care as patients lined up overnight for treatment and on-site glasses.

Remote Area Medical

Remote Area Medical, RAM, the nation’s largest provider of free pop-up health clinics offering dental, vision and medical care, held a free clinic in Montgomery, Alabama, on April 25-26. The clinic at the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl served more than 465 patients. The value of care exceeded $280,000.

Patients received free dental cleanings, tooth extractions, fillings, general medical exams, eye exams and glasses made on-site. RAM does not require identification or insurance, and the clinic is free to anyone in need. Because the clinic operates on a first-come, first-served basis, many patients spent Friday night in their cars to ensure they could be seen early Saturday morning.

RAM provides free care through its volunteers. Dentists, hygienists, doctors, nurses and optometrists donate their services. Along with general support volunteers, more than 537 people volunteered throughout the weekend.

Philanthropist and actor Stan Brock founded RAM in 1985. The organization is celebrating serving more than 1 million patients.
