Alabama Democratic Party Chairman Randy Kelley announced Thursday that the State Democratic Executive Committee will meet August 8 at the Renaissance Montgomery Hotel and Spa, 201 Tallapoosa St., to reorganize the committee for the next four years.
The committee will elect a chair, general vice chair, secretary and constituency vice chairs for minority affairs, county affairs, labor and youth. Under the party’s bylaws, the newly elected chair will appoint a treasurer after taking office.
Members also will elect a Democratic National Committee committeewoman and committeeperson. After those elections, the committee will fill nine district vacancies left open following the May 19 Democratic primary.
The newly elected members will then meet by congressional district to select one man and one woman from each district to serve on the executive board.
The Youth Caucus, Black Caucus, LGBTQ Caucus, Hispanic Caucus, Asian American Caucus and Native American Caucus will meet at 9 a.m. before the organizational meeting begins at 11 a.m.
Any registered Alabama voter who identifies as a Democrat and wants to fill a vacancy may seek election through the appropriate caucus meeting or when the committee convenes.
Candidates may qualify until each position is filled.
