Britt plans Alabama service academy information sessions

Alabama students and families can get nomination guidance at October events in Birmingham, Huntsville and Montgomery ahead of a November 13 deadline.

U.S. Senator Katie Britt, R-Alabama, announced Tuesday that her office will host three service academy informational sessions across Alabama in October. The sessions will provide interested Alabama residents and their families with information about the congressional nomination process and opportunities to meet with representatives from various service academies and the Marion Military Institute.

Britt’s office provided the following dates and locations for the upcoming events:

  • Thursday, October 8, at Homewood Public Library in Birmingham from 6 to 8 p.m.
  • Tuesday, October 20, at the Alabama School of Cybertechnology & Engineering in Huntsville from 6 to 8 p.m.
  • Wednesday, October 28, at Auburn University’s Montgomery campus from 6 to 8 p.m.

Britt’s office noted that attendance is voluntary and will have no impact on a student’s application status for a nomination from her.

Applicants seeking a congressional nomination must submit an online application, three recommendation letters, ACT or SAT scores, a school transcript and a resume. They must also have an open application with one of the academies. The U.S. Coast Guard Academy does not require a congressional nomination.

Other members of Alabama’s congressional delegation are also accepting applications, including U.S. Representative Terri Sewell, D-Alabama, whose office recently hosted an informational session for students in Alabama’s 7th Congressional District at the Marion Military Institute alongside Britt’s office.

Students interested in receiving a nomination from Britt must submit their applications no later than Friday, November 13.
