Alabama High School Democrats Launch College Scholarship Program

Staff Report

The Alabama High School Democrats, in conjunction with the Alabama College and Young Democrats, are launching a college scholarship program for civically-involved high school seniors.

“We’re extremely excited to launch this program. As college tuition continues to rise, it’s critical we give our young Democratic leaders the opportunity to earn an education,” Jordan Cozby, Chairman of the Alabama High School Democrats, said.

The deadline to apply for the scholarship is April 14, 2014. Any graduating high school senior who is active in politics and their community can apply for the scholarship.

“We plan to award a minimum of one $500 scholarship, but we hope to be able to offer more. Our success in this project will vary on how our fundraising goes. If you can donate or connect us to potential donors, we hope we can count on your support,” Cozby said.

If you would like to contribute to the scholarship fund, you can mail a check to the Alabama Young Democrats at 318 Richard Arrington Blvd, Birmingham, 35203 with “ALHSDA Scholarship Fund” in the memo line or donate securely via PayPal.

The Alabama High School Democrats are an organization dedicated to empowering high school students to take part in the political process. They were named the 2013 High School Democrats of America “State Chapter of the Year.”
