ALGOP postpones Summer Dinner after Trump backs keynote for NC Senate

Trump’s endorsement of RNC Chair Michael Whatley prompted a delay as the ALGOP shifts its focus to preserving a Republican Senate majority in 2026.

The Alabama Republican Party announced Tuesday that it is postponing its highly anticipated Summer Dinner, originally scheduled for Friday, August 1, following President Donald Trump’s endorsement of the event’s keynote speaker, RNC Chairman Michael Whatley, in North Carolina’s 2026 U.S. Senate race.

The change reflects the growing significance of Whatley’s potential Senate candidacy in a pivotal battleground state and the impact of Trump’s endorsement on Republican strategy heading into the next election cycle.

“This is an exciting moment for our Party and the nation,” said Alabama Republican Party Chairman John Wahl. “Chairman Whatley is a strong conservative leader, and we fully support him as he considers stepping into one of the most important races in the country.”

Trump’s endorsement appears to have accelerated Whatley’s campaign deliberations and travel schedule, prompting the Alabama GOP to put its event on hold to accommodate the shifting political landscape.

“President Trump’s endorsement has understandably reshaped Chairman Whatley’s immediate schedule and travel obligations, and we want to make sure he is able to concentrate on making this important decision,” Wahl said. “We recognize that preserving a Republican majority in the U.S. Senate is critical to the future of our country, and that must remain our highest priority.”

The Alabama Republican Party said it is working to reschedule the Summer Dinner and will release updated details once confirmed. Attendees who have already purchased tickets or sponsorships will receive a refund or have their purchases honored for the rescheduled event.

“We appreciate the understanding and continued support of our members and grassroots supporters,” Wahl added. “Together, we are building momentum to elect strong conservative leaders and defend our values—both here in Alabama and across the nation.”
