Basketball Hall of Famer and Leeds native Charles Barkley has donated $25,000 to Children’s of Alabama in support of the Regions Tradition’s charitable mission.

Children’s of Alabama is the primary charitable beneficiary of the Regions Tradition and is one of the 10 busiest children’s hospitals in the country, serving patients from every county in Alabama and across the United States.

“On behalf of our team at Children’s of Alabama, we are incredibly grateful to Charles Barkley for a $25,000 donation to the hospital as the beneficiary of the Regions Tradition. His continued commitment to the children in our care inspires all of us, and we greatly appreciate his generosity,” Chandler Bibb, chief development officer at Children’s of Alabama, said.

“Charles Barkley has been one of our tournament’s best ambassadors. He first played in our Pro Am in 1993 and has come back almost every year to play in our Pro Am in support of our tournament’s charitable initiatives,” Gene Hallman, president of Eventive Sports, said. “As someone whose family has benefited directly from Children’s of Alabama’s world-class services, I greatly appreciate Charles’ donation. His generosity is amazing.”

“The Regions Tradition is connecting great golf with strong philanthropy,” Christian White, Regions Bank’s Birmingham market president, said. “We are incredibly grateful to Charles Barkley for his generous donation to Children’s of Alabama. This commitment, plus proceeds from this year’s Regions Tradition, will make a meaningful difference for children and families across Alabama. And it speaks volumes about Charles’ unwavering dedication to this community and our state.”

The Regions Tradition is one of five major championships on PGA TOUR Champions and brings many of golf’s biggest names to Greystone Golf & Country Club each year.

Since its inception, the tournament has donated more than $24 million to charity, with Children’s of Alabama serving as its primary charitable beneficiary. The event continues to pair top-level golf with a mission of supporting children and families across Alabama.
