Representative Robert Aderholt, R-Alabama, released a statement Wednesday on the new Rural Hospital Provider Assistance Program, or RHPAP, established through the Department of Health and Human Services and the Health Resources and Services Administration.

“As chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee overseeing health funding, I was proud to secure and advance the Rural Hospital Provider Assistance Program through the fiscal year 2026 Consolidated Appropriations Act,” Aderholt said. “This initiative reflects a deliberate commitment to ensuring our rural hospitals have the resources they need to survive and serve their communities. Through this program, eligible hospitals will receive direct financial assistance to help maintain and strengthen essential health care services.”

Nearly 30 rural hospitals in Alabama are eligible to apply for the grant, including five in Alabama’s 4th Congressional District: Fayette, Lakeland, Marion Regional, Northwest and Russellville.

The amount of each grant will be determined by the total number of eligible hospitals, but current estimates show each hospital could receive about $150,000.

Applications close July 1, 2026.
