U.S. Representative Terri Sewell, D-Alabama, on Tuesday released a new video from a grocery store in Alabama’s 7th Congressional District comparing the prices of everyday essentials—including tomatoes, coffee, ground beef and fresh fruits and vegetables—with their prices a year ago.
The video follows Sewell’s August 2025 video, in which she highlighted rising grocery prices and warned that higher food costs were straining working families.
“Last year, I invited my constituents to come grocery shopping with me to highlight the rising cost of everyday essentials,” Sewell said. “One year later, I’m back, and the promise that President Trump made to bring prices down is still nowhere to be found.”
President Donald Trump campaigned on a pledge to lower the cost of goods, saying he would “immediately bring prices down, starting on day one.” Sewell’s office said the latest federal data show grocery prices remain higher than they were a year ago.
Sewell has made lowering the cost of living a priority and recently released a report examining affordability issues in Alabama’s 7th Congressional District, including the costs of groceries, housing, utilities, gasoline and health care.
She called on Trump and congressional Republicans to work with Democrats on policies aimed at lowering costs for working families.
“Hardworking Alabamians did not vote for excuses. They voted for lower prices. They deserve to know why President Trump and Republicans in Congress have failed to deliver,” Sewell said. “I will continue holding this administration accountable for its broken promises and fighting for an economy where hardworking families can afford to put food on the table, pay their bills, and build a better future.”
