Congresswoman Terri Sewell said Monday that “there is no place in the country better suited to be the home of U.S. Space command.” Sewell’s comments came in response to the Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee asking President Joe Biden to review the decision to headquarter Space Command in Huntsville.

“There is no place in the country better situated to be the home of the U.S. Space Command headquarters than the Rocket City,” Sewell told APR. “I believe that any review will show that Alabama was selected because its existing aerospace infrastructure, national security presence, and skilled workforce make it the ideal location to house the headquarters.”

The head of the Senate’s Intelligence Committee, Sen. Mark Warner, D-Virginia, has joined a group of lawmakers calling on the Biden administration to review the decision to move U.S. Space Command headquarters from Colorado to Alabama.

Warner and Sen. Michael Bennet, D-Colorado, have pressed Biden to review the move over concerns of negative impacts to the intelligence community. They claim that the Trump administration “did not take into account how such a move may affect Intelligence Community dependencies and missions,” which work in tandem with Pentagon efforts to protect U.S. satellites and other interests from threats.

The Air Force decided in January to move the permanent headquarters of Space Command from Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs to the U.S, Army’s Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville.

Bennet represents Colorado. Colorado Springs competed hard with Huntsville to be the headquarters for Space Force and all the jobs that will bring to the area that ultimately gets to be the permanent home of the command.

Trump loyalist former state Rep. Perry Hooper Jr. said that the Trump administration thoroughly reviewed the project and made the right decision to locate Space Force headquarters in Alabama.

“The great state of Alabama is the perfect state to develop the Space Force program,” Hooper said. “President Trump and Congress both Republican and Democrat funded this important program to be developed in Huntsville, Alabama, home of the Space and Rocket Center, NASA.”

Sewell is a widely respected member of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s Democratic leadership team.

“I am confident that Congresswoman Sewell and Senator Richard Shelby will fight to keep the Space Force sufficiently funded and developed in Huntsville, Alabama,” Hooper stated.

Congresswoman Terri Sewell is in her sixth term representing Alabama’s 7th Congressional District.
