Economic Development Association presents 2023 Legislator of the Year awards

Sen. Gudger and Rep. Garrett were selected based on their roles in the development and passage of the The Game Plan.

The Economic Development Association of Alabama (EDAA) presented Senator Garlan Gudger and Representative Danny Garrett with Legislator of the Year Awards during the Governor’s Luncheon held on July 31, 2023, at the 2023 EDAA Summer Conference in Point Clear, Ala. Senator Gudger and Representative Garrett were selected for this year’s award based on the vital roles they played in the development and passage of the The Game Plan economic development legislation during the 2023 Alabama legislative session. Both recipients have been long-time supporters of Alabama’s economic development efforts as well as the state’s economic development professionals. 

The Game Plan is a significant economic development initiative aimed at fostering growth, creating job opportunities, and enhancing overall economic prosperity in the state of Alabama. During her speech at the EDAA Summer Conference Governor’s luncheon, Governor Kay Ivey said, “Without legislative action, our incentive programs were due to expire this summer, so we had to act quickly. Thank you to Senator Garlan Gudger and Representative Danny Garrett for guiding The Game Plan through the legislature to final passage, and not a moment too soon,” said Ivey.
