Everett Wess, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate, will host a free public town hall Thursday, July 23, at the Moody Civic Center, 200 Civic Center Drive in Moody. Doors will open at 5:15 p.m., and the program will begin at 6 p.m.
The listening session will allow St. Clair and Jefferson county residents to share their priorities, concerns and visions for the 2026 Legislative Session.
Over the past two years, the St. Clair County Democratic Party has experienced a resurgence in membership, event attendance and interest in Democratic candidates and leaders. Led by Monroe Golden, the county party continues to hold listening sessions where residents can “learn about the issues, express their concerns and work with future elected officials to move Alabama forward,” according to a party news release.
“What I see happening politically in St. Clair County is consistent with state and national trends—that being more and more Democratic-minded people getting involved, many for the first time in their lives,” Golden said.
The program will begin with introductory presentations from local candidates, including Toni Kornegay Vaughn, a candidate for Alabama House District 43; Alan Thomas, a candidate for Alabama House District 50; and Donald Mottern, a candidate for Alabama Senate District 11.
Guests will then have an opportunity to meet and speak with Wess. The floor will open to questions and discussion following the candidate presentations.
Organizers said people of all political affiliations, backgrounds and viewpoints are welcome.
“The evening’s core goal is to foster an environment of respectful listening, mutual learning and community collaboration,” the release said.
Guests are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items. The party will donate the items to the Christian Love Pantry, a local food bank in Pell City.
