Two new drive-thru locations in Birmingham and Bessemer are accepting samples to be tested for the novel coronavirus at a Birmingham company’s lab, and can have results within four hours, according to the company.

Assurance Scientific Laboratories can run 10,000 patient samples a week, and is accepting patients at both locations, the company said in a statement Thursday.

The Birmingham company said it has received FDA clearance to begin testing.

“Due to the concern of exposure in clinics and waiting rooms, healthcare providers have expressed desire to send patients for off-site testing,” the company’s statement reads.

“I’m proud of the tireless effort our lab put into expediting the delivery of the COVID-19 testing. It was evident that our team was on a mission to do our part,” said Mary Beth Minyard, Director of Microbiology at Assurance in the statement. “I’m sure Physicians across the state will be relieved there is now an Alabama-based commercial lab that can offer this rapid testing for their patients. No one wants this spreading any quicker than it already has.”

Healthcare providers can order tests through the company’s website, by email at [email protected] or by calling the company at 855-319-4459.

For those who do not have a health care provider, the company will have providers at both locations who can assess a person’s testing needs, according to the statement.

The drive-thru locations are at 727 Memorial Drive in Bessemer and 2868 Acton Rd. in Vestavia Hills.
