U.S. Reps. Terri Sewell and Shomari Figures will meet with Lowndes County residents Thursday evening in Hope Hull as part of Sewell’s annual Congress in Your Community Tour.
The community conversation will begin at 6 p.m. at the Beulah Wellness Center, located at 256 Beulah Circle. Sewell, who represents Alabama’s 7th Congressional District, announced that Figures, who represents the 2nd District, will join her as a special guest. (Facebook)
The lawmakers are expected to discuss issues affecting Lowndes County and take questions directly from residents.
Sewell holds her Congress in Your Community Tour each year, traveling throughout the 7th District to meet with constituents and hear about issues affecting their communities. The meetings are part of a broader constituent outreach effort that also includes mobile office hours throughout the district. Earlier this month, Sewell’s staff held mobile office hours in Hayneville to assist Lowndes County residents with Social Security, veterans benefits, Medicare and Medicaid, passports and other federal services. Thursday’s meeting comes as Sewell has placed increased emphasis on the cost of living. On Sunday, her office released a report examining the costs of groceries, housing, electricity, gasoline, child care and health care in the 7th District. The report argues that policies pursued by President Donald Trump and congressional Republicans have increased financial pressure on Alabama families. (Congresswoman Terri Sewell)
Figures, now in his first term representing Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District, has also focused recently on issues affecting rural communities. Earlier this month, he announced that he secured a provision in the 2026 Water Resources Development Act authorizing $50 million for water and wastewater infrastructure projects across his district. The measure cleared the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and awaits further congressional action. (House of Representatives Figures)
