AFA announces its endorsement of Matt Woods for Alabama Senate District 5

Woods currently serves in the Alabama House of Representatives for District 13.

Republican Matt Woods

The Alabama Forestry Association announced its endorsement of Matt Woods for Alabama Senate District 5. This district covers all of Lamar, Fayette, and Walker Counties along with parts of Tuscaloosa and Jefferson Counties where the forest products industry has an overall economic impact of $2.10 billion.

Woods currently serves in the Alabama House of Representatives for District 13.

As a lifelong resident of Walker County, Woods now runs his family’s business, Jasper Auto Sales. He is an Oakman High School graduate and went on to attend Bevill State Community College in Jasper. Woods transferred to Auburn University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration.

Woods previously was appointed by Governor Kay Ivey to serve on the Alabama Community  College System Board of Trustees.

“I’m excited to have the support and endorsement of the Alabama Forestry Association,” said Woods. “We share the same conservative values that have made America great – limited government, fiscal responsibility, and respect for private property rights. I look forward to representing all the people of District 5, and I’m glad to have the Alabama Forestry Association supporting me in that effort.”

With an abundance of forestry in Senate District 5, Woods understands the forest products industry and the importance of keeping Alabama’s business climate successful.

“We have been impressed with the work Representative Woods has accomplished in the House the past 2 and half years,” said Chris Isaacson, president and CEO of AFA. “His service to his District has been unmatched and we look forward to what he will accomplish in the Senate. We are proud to support someone whose beliefs align so well with our founding principles. Matt’s work ethic and his support for private property rights and fiscal responsibility prove that Senate District 5 will continue to benefit from his leadership.”

Woods and his wife of 19 years, Brandi, have a daughter, Camden. Their family has a local non profit, Hope After Loss Organization, HALO, where they provide memory boxes and grief support for families who have lost a child.

Woods is seeking to serve Senate District 5 now that former Senator Greg Reed has stepped down and been named the Alabama Secretary of Workforce. The Senate District 5 Special General Election will be held on Tuesday, June 24, 2025.
