Rep. Sewell accepting applications for fall 2026 internships

College students and recent graduates with Alabama ties can gain Capitol Hill experience. Applications are due July 6.

Rep. Terri Sewell

The Washington, D.C., and district offices of U.S. Representative Terri Sewell, D-Alabama, announced Tuesday that they are accepting applications for fall 2026 internships.

College students and recent graduates interested in government and public service are invited to apply for an opportunity to work alongside Sewell’s staff on legislative, communications and administrative projects throughout the semester.

“Interns are our future leaders, advocates, and changemakers,” Sewell said. “Through my fall internship program, students have the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in Congress, learn about the legislative process, and help serve the constituents of Alabama’s 7th Congressional District. As someone who benefited from mentors who opened doors and created opportunities, I know how important it is for young people to see themselves in positions of leadership and public service. I encourage all interested students to apply and take advantage of this unique opportunity.”

Interns will have opportunities to research legislation, draft correspondence, compile media clips, answer constituent calls and attend legislative hearings, briefings and seminars.

Students with Alabama ties who will be entering their junior or senior year of an undergraduate program by September 2026 are strongly encouraged to apply. Applicants should be proactive, professional and dependable, with an interest in federal policy and the legislative process. Sewell’s office said candidates should also have strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, the ability to multitask and a willingness to learn.

Sewell’s office said it is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate in hiring based on race, color, religion, sex, gender identity, national origin, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, genetic information, age, military service or other non-merit factors. Applicants from underrepresented communities are encouraged to apply.

The application deadline is July 6, 2026, at 9 a.m. CDT.
