EAMC becomes Alabama’s first hospital with Vibwife birth platform

All childbirth unit rooms now feature the mobility system, which lets laboring mothers adjust gentle movement and positioning by remote control.

East Alabama Medical Center is the first hospital in Alabama to offer the Vibwife Birth Platform, a birth mobility system designed to give patients greater comfort, movement and control during labor.

Newsweek recognized EAMC as one of America’s Best Maternity Hospitals in 2025. Hospital officials said the new system is part of EAMC’s continued investment in maternity care and reflects East Alabama Health’s commitment to combining advanced resources with compassionate, family-centered care.

“When families come to EAMC to welcome a baby, they are trusting us with one of the most important moments of their lives,” East Alabama Health Chief Nursing Officer Nicki Ware said. “Introducing the Vibwife Birth Platform is one more way we are investing in their comfort, safety and overall birthing experience.”

EAMC has equipped every room in its Childbirth Unit with the platform, making the technology available to all patients receiving labor and delivery care in the unit.

The Vibwife Birth Platform allows patients to use a remote control to activate gentle, rhythmic movement while laboring in bed. The system supports several labor positions and is designed to help patients remain mobile and comfortable, including those pursuing an unmedicated birth or receiving an epidural.

According to EAMC, the platform:

  • Supports movement of the pelvis, legs and body during labor.
  • Offers multiple positioning options intended to improve comfort and support labor progression.
  • Provides pelvic lift and tilt features designed to create more space for the baby’s descent.
  • Gives patients control over movement through a remote.

EAMC is also among the first hospitals in the United States to implement the Vibwife system, according to the hospital.

The investment comes as EAMC works to meet the needs of a growing region. More than 2,200 babies are born at the hospital each year.

“Maternity care is an essential part of our mission because it touches families at such a meaningful time,” EAMC Executive Director of Women’s and Children’s Services Rosemary Cummings said. “Our goal is to provide mothers with compassionate care, advanced resources and an environment where they feel supported from pregnancy through delivery and beyond.”

The Vibwife Birth Platform is produced by LINET Group, a Netherlands-based company. The system is used in maternity care facilities in Europe and other parts of the world.

Hospital officials said the addition further strengthens East Alabama Health’s maternity care services in the region.
