Lieutenant Governor Will Ainsworth on Monday announced his endorsement of conservative Republican Rhett Marques for Congress in Alabama’s First Congressional District, as momentum continues to build with just over three weeks until the May 19 primary election.
In a video shared on social media, Ainsworth said, “Rhett is a MAGA Trump Republican through and through and is supported by one of the most conservative Senators in Washington, Senator Katie Britt. … He has stood tall in the Alabama House, cutting taxes on groceries, protecting the unborn, defending our Second Amendment gun rights, and banning mud dumping in Mobile Bay.”
“Rhett Marques is a doer, not a talker, and he’ll make Alabama’s Wiregrass and Gulf Coast proud.”
A recent poll by Political Intelligence Polling found Marques taking the lead in the AL-01 Republican primary race, according to Alabama Daily News and Yellowhammer News.
Ainsworth joins a growing list of supporters backing Marques’ campaign, including Senator Britt, the Petroleum & Convenience Marketers Association of Alabama and Manufacture Alabama.
Marques has spent his life in Alabama’s First Congressional District. Born and raised in Spanish Fort, he graduated from Fairhope High School, attended the University of Alabama, and returned home to build a tire and automotive business while raising his family in the Wiregrass.
“As a state representative, Marques helped pass $1.5 billion in tax cuts, protected girls’ sports, and led the effort to pass the Save Our Bay bill to stop irresponsible mud dumping in Mobile Bay,” Marques’ press release concluded.
