U.S. Representative Barry Moore won Tuesday’s Republican runoff for Alabama’s open U.S. Senate seat, defeating former Navy SEAL Jared Hudson and securing a spot on the November general election ballot.
With 93 percent of votes reported, Moore led Hudson with about 56 percent to 44 percent, according to the Associated Press.
Moore entered the runoff as the favorite after finishing first in the initial Republican primary and receiving endorsements from President Donald Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance, Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-South Dakota, and National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman Tim Scott, R-South Carolina.
Moore will face the winner of the Democratic runoff between Birmingham attorney Everett Wess and entrepreneur Dakarai Larriett in November. The race will determine who succeeds outgoing U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville, who is not seeking reelection as he campaigns for governor.
