Corey Hill’s campaign for Agriculture and Industries Commissioner billed him as the “farmer’s choice.”
He’s definitely the Republicans’ choice.
Hill topped challenger Christina Woerner McInnis in Tuesday’s Republican runoff, earning 53 percent of the vote. He’ll now face Democratic challenger and former Ag Commissioner Ron Sparks in the general election in November.
Hill entered both the primary and the runoff elections as the favorite, thanks to two key endorsements: from the Farmers Federation and the Alabama Grocers Association. Those two entities hold considerable sway in the race.
Hill is a second generation farmer who operates a cattle and poultry farm and also runs a grocery store in Douglas. He also has served as the mayor of Douglas.
“Corey is a poultry and cattle farmer who came up through our Young Farmers program and previously served as Marshall County Farmers Federation president,” said Farmers Federation President Jimmy Parnell. “He understands the challenges facing agriculture and will be a great leader for our industry.”
Hill’s platform included cutting regulations on farmers, bringing back the rural crime division to investigate crimes that primarily affect farmers and farm equipment and expanding a food program that allows farmers to sell directly to schools.
