House Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter on Wednesday appointed Representative Jeff Sorrells, R-Hartford, as chairman of the House Committee on Health.

Representative Paul Lee, R-Dothan, previously held the position. He stepped down after lawmakers elected him majority leader.

“I am proud to appoint Representative Jeff Sorrells to the House Committee on Health chairmanship,” Ledbetter said. “Having served on this committee for the last five years, Representative Sorrells possesses the knowledge and relationships to ensure this vital committee continues to operate at a high level. Leader Lee leaves big shoes to fill, but I am confident Jeff is the right man for the job.”

Lawmakers first elected Sorrells in 2019. He has served on the House Committee on Health since 2021.

“This committee handles matters that directly impact the health and well-being of the people of Alabama, and as chairman, I am committed to ensuring every decision we make is in the best interest of Alabamians,” Sorrells said. “I am grateful that Speaker Ledbetter has entrusted me to serve in this vitally important role and look forward to hitting the ground running.”
