U.S. Senator Cory Booker, D-New Jersey, will attend a Birmingham town hall hosted by Blueprint Alabama on Monday, May 4, the organization recently announced.
According to the organizers, Booker will join Alabama voters for “an important conversation at a critical moment for our country.” The senator was originally scheduled to visit the Magic City last November for a town hall with U.S. Representative Terri Sewell, D-Alabama, and former U.S. Senator Doug Jones, but was unable to attend following a scheduling conflict.
Booker shared his excitement ahead of the event in a recent statement.
“I’m excited to return to Alabama, because the people of Alabama are no strangers to confronting the kind of moral moment America is in right now,” Booker said. “In every part of our country, Americans are facing the same kinds of hardships: struggling to get by, disgusted by the corruption in our political system, and yearning for bold change.”
“That’s why I’m looking forward to joining Alabamians for a conversation about the challenges we’re facing, the importance of organizing everywhere to create change in our communities, and how we stand up together to chart a better path forward for our country,” the senator added.
Event organizers shared in Booker’s enthusiasm, stating that the event is “about more than politics. It’s about where we are, what’s at stake, and how we move forward together.”
“This moment demands more than politics as usual , it demands leadership, courage, and real connection with people on the ground,” added Josh Coleman, co-founder of Blueprint Alabama. “Senator Booker brings all of that, and the fact that he’s coming to Birmingham speaks volumes about the importance of this moment and the power of our community.”
“At a time when so many feel unheard and overlooked, this town hall is about reigniting hope, building power, and reminding people that their voices still have the ability to shape the future,” said Coleman. “Birmingham is ready for that conversation.”
The event will be free and open to the public, but space will be limited. The event location will be shared 48 hours prior to the program with attendees who have registered in advance. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. with the program set to begin at 6 p.m.
Those interested in attending can register on Blueprint Alabama’s website.
