The Alabama Republican Party announced Monday evening that candidate qualifying for the Alabama Senate District 25 and Senate District 26 special primary elections officially closed at 5 p.m. June 1.

Following the close of qualifying, one Republican candidate successfully qualified for the special primary election: Will Barfoot in Senate District 25.

The special primary elections follow Governor Kay Ivey’s proclamation calling elections in the two districts after the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals allowed Alabama to use its 2021 state Senate map.

The ruling affected Senate District 25 and Senate District 26. Following the decision, Ivey called a special primary election for Tuesday, August 11, 2026. There will be no runoff election. The general election will occur as planned with other races on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.

“Alabama continues winning fair and square in our redistricting battle, and I am proud to celebrate yet another victory for Alabamians and our elections,” Ivey said at the time. “In this case, we are talking about Alabamians in State Senate Districts 25 and 26.”

The deadline for qualifying with major political parties was Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at 8 a.m. The deadline for qualifying with independent and minor political parties is Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at 5 p.m.
