Proponents of electric vehicles (EVs) tout lower fuel and maintenance costs as key benefits of driving electric.

But how much money do EV owners really save? And why do they consistently rave about EVs’ instant torque and thrilling driving experience compared to gas-powered cars and trucks?

Those questions can be answered by EV owners during a series of showcase EVents from Sept. 25-28 across Alabama. To celebrate National Drive Electric Week, there will be four separate EV showcases throughout the state – in Auburn, Birmingham, Huntsville and Foley. At all four, EV owners will display their vehicles and talk one-on-one with anyone wanting to learn more about driving electric every day.

“If you want to know more about EVs, why wouldn’t you want to talk actual EV owners?” said Michael Staley, president of the Alabama Clean Fuels Coalition, an organization that helped coordinate the four EV showcases. “The very best way to learn about EVs is to talk to the people who drive them every day. As more and more EVs are on Alabama’s roads, it makes sense for everyone to learn more about these cars and trucks.”

Here’s a look at the Alabama events that are part of National Drive Electric Week:

National Drive Electric Week (NDEW) is designed to spread the word about the many benefits of electric vehicles.

Staley plans to display his all-electric 2024 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck in Auburn on Sept. 25 and Birmingham on Sept. 28, along with a tail-gaiting set-up.

“A majority of Alabamians have still never driven an EV,” Staley said. “What’s amazing about these EV showcases is that people can some see the wide variety of EVs available – from SUVs to full-sized pick-up trucks to luxury cars – and talk to the people driving them every day. I encourage anyone who wants to know more about EVs, especially if you’re thinking about buying one for your next vehicle purchase, to attend one of the four EV showcases around the state.”
