Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed’s chief of staff is stepping down, but he’s not going far.
Chip Hill, who has worked with Reed since 2008 and was a key figure in both his probate judge and mayoral campaigns, announced on Friday that he would be resigning and returning to the private sector.
“Chip Hill’s leadership as Chief of Staff has been instrumental in guiding us through some of our most challenging times,” Reed said. “I am excited for him and his family as he embarks on this new chapter in the private sector.”
In addition to working as Reed’s chief of staff, Hill has served as a staff consultant at Matrix LLC., and has operated his own private practice, Hill Strategies. He told APR on Sunday that his departure was part of a long-term plan that he and Reed had discussed for more than a year, and that his future work will be related to issues important to Montgomery.
“There are a lot of very important issues that I have been asked to be engaged with and that I really need to be engaged with,” Hill said, “and I can do that work best from the private sector. I feel like I can best do that work from outside the mayor’s office.”
Chief Operating Officer Jeramie Reid will step into the role vacated by Hill. Reid has previously served as the director of personnel at Air Mobility Command at Scott Air Force Base and director of operations for HQ Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps.
