Stand Up Mobile, “a nonpartisan voter education and advocacy organization,” has announced its final push to “get out the vote” ahead of Tuesday’s general election.

“In a final ‘get out the vote’ push to Election Day, Stand Up Mobile is helping voters make their voices heard and votes counted,” reads a press release from the organization. “Stand Up Mobile encourages all eligible voters to make a plan to vote on November 5, or return their absentee ballot in person by the November 4 deadline.”

The organization will be hosting a volunteer canvass at the Robert L. Hope Community Center in Mobile at noon on Sunday, Nov. 3. The organization previously held a similar canvassing event in September in honor of National Black Voter Day.

“In addition to voting in the race for President and Vice President of the United States, Stand Up Mobile urges voters to vote down ballot in all races, including for the new 2nd congressional district, and to vote their values,” the organization added.

On Election Day, Stand Up Mobile will also be offering free rides to the polls for Mobile voters to encourage turnout. Interested voters can call (251) 358-7161 on Tuesday or book a free ride with the organization in advance. Other cities across the country, including El Paso, Texas and Durham, North Carolina, will also be providing various forms of free public transportation to the polls in an attempt to make voting as accessible as possible.

“Stand Up Mobile believes [that] providing rides to the polls provides fair and equal access to all citizens to have access to the ballot,” Beverly Cooper, co-founder of Stand Up Mobile, told APR. “Some polling places are not within walking distant and not all citizens have access to a car.  Our work seeks to remove impediments to the ballot.”

Cooper also stressed the importance of participating in Tuesday’s election in Stand Up Mobile’s press release: “Our vote is our power. We highly encourage all Mobile residents to get to the polls on November 5th, and bring 3 friends or family members with you. Our democracy is strongest when all our voices are heard and counted.”
